After I returned home from the Denver DCA shows in July of 1980, I decided to repeat the “B” litter and so Rose Farms Black Berry Buff L ROMO was bred again to CH B’s Javelin de Bayard ROMO. This litter was born on Sept 17, 1980 and consisted of three males and three females and was one of my most successful breedings.

As usual, I looked and looked at these puppies, standing still and in motion, and the differences soon became apparent, because they all looked pretty damned good. Dee Hutchinson came out and this time took a male and a female home with her. The male went to Peter Monks and unfortunately was not finished while Dee kept the bitch, CH Rose Farms Delilah v Boondox ROMO herself. She finished quickly and became one of Dee’s Top Producers, producing nine Champions and one of them was the male CH Rose Farms Xavier who was an All Breed BIS winner and the top producing daughter was CH Rose Farms Lady of the Night ROMX, Hooker, who became Andrea Spritzer’s next Junior Showmanship dog and a top producer for her and her mother, Carol Spritzer. All of Delilah’s Champions were sired by CH Rose Farms Merrakesh Express ROM who was out of Lardi’s littermate, CH Rose Farm’s  Ginger Girl ROMX.

Dudley winning a Group Placement under Judge Lorraine Masley who was a GREAT Dachshund Handler, shown by Co-owner Pete Jensen for Cherie Jensen, his wife. They were good friends who did some nice winning for my early litters.

I sold a pet male to Michigan and he was also what I liked but needed to cut down a little on dogs I was keeping. Then I sold CH Rose Farms Dudley v Boondox ROM to Pete and Cherie Jensen from Iowa and he became a Top Five Special  in the show ring and later became a Top Producer. This guy had it all and was outstanding with all the things I wanted such as a great front, nice neck and neckset and a great topline and rear. He had the outline I wanted even as a young puppy and kept that look throughout his life.

Then I sold Rose Farms Maggie Red ROMX to Claire Atkins of Cincinnati. She had a whole host of Lakeland Terriers that were winning across the country, even at Montgomery County and was a close friend of Nancy McCue whom she was visiting when I came over with the puppies. She looked at them and offered me $300 for the bitch, Maggie. I said ‘no’ as she had a break in her tail and so she lowered her price to $100 and I took it. Yes, I actually lowered her price. Maggie was an excellent bitch and had everything I liked with her nice front, level topline and short hocks, but unfortunately had the bent tail that her mother had and was the first puppy to have it in her two breedings. Clair bred her and her handler and Carol Spritzer showed her puppies enough to get the ROMX. Her Mayapple dogs gave herself and the current owners a lot of pleasure.

Dolly winning her first points under Judge Don Martin who was one of her biggest fans.

The last one I kept was CH Rose Farms Dolly v Boondox who had a nice career in the Showring and was the winner of five Best in Sweepstakes winning under Judges Fran Colonna, Audrey Nick, Lucy Moden, Ellis Young and Russell Moffett who were all top breeders of Dachshunds in their day. Thelma Moffett said to her husband, Russ, that he must have put Dolly up since I had named her after Dolly Parton since they both had big fronts, too. I do have to admit that was exactly why she got her name since she was the biggest front I had raised and looked like a little Dolly running around that ex pen. In the show ring, Dolly had everything I was looking for as she had a great head and neckset, with the neck set far back on the body with a great big front and the shoulders and upper arm were placed exactly where they should have been and she also had a great topline and underline with a nice rear and very short hocks. With her structure, she obviously was a great mover, covering ground easily and soundly.

Dolly winning a BV under reknowned Judge John Cook in Columbus OH. He was another who loved her each time he saw her.

She was a great one to show and had several Specialty majors and some nice Specialty wins including a DCA BOS-V under John Cook at the 1984 Pennsylvania DCA. Sadly, Dolly was a puppy that had parvo as a young puppy and it came back when she was a young adult and that time we almost lost her, but she did survive. Unfortunately, we did lose her after DCA when it struck her again. Losing her, just a PJ was born really shook me as her type and soundness would have been perfect for what PJ was producing especially in light of what her full  sister, Zesabel. had produced with him. That was a sad loss for me. Losing Anka and now Dolly set me back as they had the things I needed as a new breeder of the Breed I loved.

This litter was one of my best and had such Top Producers as CH Rose Farms Dudley v Boondox ROM, Rose Farms Maggie Red ROMX and, most successfully CH Rose Farms Delilah v Boondox ROMX. These made this repeat breeding worthwhile and was one I would have used myself if I hadn’t lost my Dolly unbred. Thinking about what she would have produced as her sister, CH Rose Farms Zesabel v Boondox ROMO, produced six DCA winners made me realize what she had that was lost to the breed. Losing Dolly and CH Boondox Anka v Zencor as producers always made me want to do more in my next generation.  At this point in all my breedings, I had no bitches to add to my producing string and was still looking to add some qualities from the dogs I was producing. In my next litter, I did find what I wanted and then the quality I needed was added.
