Miniature Wirehairs of Rose Farm
Download this page in PDF formatThe next Variety added to the Rose Farm mix was the Miniature Wirehaired and the first of their entries (that I have a picture of) is CH Rose Farm’s Chieftain MW, a son of CH Rayes’ Little Maynard-W and out of Alltrin Slinky. This new one was shown in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s era and sired a few champions himself, but Chieftain most definitely had the parts that Dee looked for as he had that length of neck, length of body and a nice carriage that Dee always strove to get in the Rose Farm dogs. CH Rayes’ Little Maynard-W, his sire, was one who caught my eye a long time ago with his carriage and beautiful structure for the time, so I was glad to see that Dee evidently had the same attraction to him that I did.

Rose Garden was a tiny bitch from one of Dee’s first breeding of MW’s. She was out of a dog that Dee bred who was related to Chieftain and out of CH Rose Farm’s Bridget MW, a full sister to Chieftain.

Ch Rose Farm’s Naughty Girl MW, Judge John Cook and handler Dee Hutchinson-1973
Naughty Girl was another one from the early ’70’s and she was sired by an unfinished Ardencaple smooth dog and out of a Chieftain daughter. As you can see from the picture, Naughty Girl kept much of Chieftain’s nice outline and was a very pretty girl. She was a full sister to the previous one, CH Rose Farm’s Kingsley Fink and both are grandchildren of Chieftain. As the pictures point out, Kingsley had the outline we all were looking for in Miniature and Standards and he and Naughty Girl were a great leap forward in type from what Dee started with in MW’s as you can see by their greater depth of forechest and with their shoulders set a little further back on the body.

CH Rose Farm’s Sweet William MW was the first of Dee’s Miniatures to win at DCA and he finished by going Winners Dog under Bud Lough at Cleveland DCA in 1975. He was the product of the Miniatures that Dee had already raised and was a son of Kingsley Fink and out a CH Bridget daughter (a Chieftain full sister). As the pictures show, he was a nice dog with a great carriage and was appreciated by the Judges that Dee sought out to show to in the Ring.

Running Free was another Kingsley Fink son and was out of a Patenaude-bred Yaletowne bitch and this bitch was a little typier and deeper bodied than Dee’s MW’s normally were. That elusive Dachshund outline was becoming something that Dee had on her horizon with these MW’s and, as one can see, she is getting there.

The next one is CH Rose Farms Mood For a Day, sired by the smooth dog, CH Rose Farm’s Timothy MS and out of a Kanawha-bred bitch who came down from None Such bred Standards. He had a great outline and is very much like the Dachshund outline we all should all still try to achieve. These pictures were taken in 1979 when Dee was showing him to his Championship here in the USA.

This one is listed in the pictures as CH Rose Farm’s Black Magic MW and he is very similar to CH Rose Farm’s Thorn In My Side MW, but these pictures were taken in 1979 and my picture of Thorn was taken in 1983. I am still looking for Black Magic in the pedigree service, but these pictures again show the improvements that are being made in the Rose Farm line.

Johnny became Denny Mounce’s Wire special before she started with her own dogs in the Texas Show Ring. He did a moderate amount of winning in that area and sired a few Champions as well.

Thorn in My Side , or Magic as he as called, was a young dog I took out for the owner because Hannelore had a couple of Standard Specials to show. Here he is winning under John Cook at the Central Ohio DC in 1983 and shortly afterwards, he was sold to Cookie See of NM. This dog would have made an outstanding sire, but there were few MW breeders out there raising them at that time.

Here are three littermates that I raised for Dee. They were sired by CH Rose Farm’s Yukon Jack MW which was a young dog that was purchased from Dee by myself and Robert Hartkemeier and wh0 was a littermate to CH Kanawha’s Teddy of Rose Farm MW. Yukey and Teddy both were sired by CH Rose Farm’s Steamboat Willie MS and from a daughter of one of the Barhar Standard Wirehaired bitches. Their dam was a smooth bitch from Dee’s super line of Miniatures, bred down again from Steamboat Willie MS. Nathan was Best of Variety and Nancy ROMX was Best Opposite Wire under Pat Wynne at the NMDC National Show in 1986. Nancy went on to Sheila Parish where she became a Top Producer for her and produced several finished Champions, including CH Rosethorn’s Easy Answer MW who was WB at DCA in Jacksonville, FL.

Mimi was shown in the classes at DCA 1986 and was very successful as she was WB the day before DCA and was RWB at DCA in Carefree, AZ. She was sired by CH Herichers Nok Your Socks Off and was out of a Teddy and Yukie full sister.

Cruiser, owned by Greta Roberts of Northern California, was a very nice dog sold to her to be specialed by Bill McFadden on the West Coast. He had a great outline, as this picture shows, and had a very nice front and rear. He did a fair amount of winning back in the early 1990’s.

Chipper was a veteran of seven years and was sired by CH Scoshire Famous Amos MW and out of CH Rose Farm’s Little Lulu MW, making him a full brother to Spicy Gingersnap and they were from one of Dee’s last breedings of MW’s. They still have the qualities that Dee bred for in Dachshunds .
Take a good look at how the MW’s of Dee’s changed through the years and how they became typier as Dachshunds and longer and lower in body and had those beautiful heads and necks she produced . Although they were not perfect, there were definite strides she made in breeding them and their results were quite amazing to watch through the years, especially after the upcoming MS’s were added to the mix in the late ’70’s and early ’80’s. The Top Producers were not there, but the quality always was there and was ready to be passed on.
