First Dachshund Field Trial

September 22, 1935 at the Pony Farm on the James Cox Brady Estate in Lamington, NJ.  Held by the Dachshund Club of America.

Winners at the First Trial

Gauner v. Fleesensee, an eight pound black and tan miniature smooth dog owned by George McKay Schiefflin, was the dog stake winner. Amsel v. Holzgarten, a twelve pound black and tan smooth bitch also owned by Schiefflin, placed first in the bitch stake and beat Gauner to win the inter-stake competition. Gauner went one to earn a number of placements but lacked for points as he passed away before the FC requirements were changed to count points from placements other than 1st.

First Dachshund Field Champion

FC Amsel v. Holzgarten, who earned her field championship on September 20, 1936. Amsel actually was the bitch winner as well as the inter-stake winner in the first three field trials held.

First Wirehaired Field Champion & First Dachshund Dual Champion

DC Vagabund v. Paulinenberg, a standard dog owned by George C. White, earned his CH in 1940 and FC on November 31, 1943.

First Longhaired Field Champion

FC Teufelin Mit Honig, a standard bitch owned by Mrs. George Goodspeed, finished her field championship at November 11, 1956 “Annual” trial.

First Licensed Trial Club

The Dachshund Club of New Jersey held its first licensed trial on April 23, 1967, becoming just the second club in the nation to offer Dachshund field trials.

March 24, 1984. Held under the aegis of the Northern California Dachshund Club.

First Field Champion to accrue more than 1000 DCA Merit Points

FC Ilsa v Dorndorf L, a standard longhaired bitch owned by Patricia Nance.  Ilsa earned 1035 merit points during a career that spanned from 1992 —2003.  She went over the 1000 point mark by earning a 2nd in a 43-dog Field Champion stake at the March 22, 2003 Dachshund Fanciers Association of Berks County trial in Shawsville, Maryland.

First Field Champion to accrue more than 1500 DCA Merit Points

FC Longtime’s Oscar von Zimmer JE CGC, a standard smooth dog owned by Cheri Faust.  Oscar accrued 1944 merit points during his 5.5 year field trial career.  He passed the 1500 point mark by earning a 2nd in a 42-dog Field Champion stake at the November 12, 2005 Dachshund Club of America Region IV field trial in Dundee, Ohio.

FC Danika vom Nordlicht TD ME, a standard wirehaired bitch owned by Cheri Faust and Larry Gohlke.  Danika reached the 2000 point mark (exactly!) by winning an 18-dog Field Champion Bitch stake at the May 4, 2013 Wolverine Dachshund Club field trial in Addison, Michigan.

FC Danika vom Nordlicht TD ME, a standard wirehaired bitch owned by Cheri Faust and Larry Gohlke. Danika passed the 2500 point mark by earning a 2nd in a 23-dog Field Champion Bitch stake at the November 8, 2015 Western Pennsylvania Dachshund Club field trial in Carrolltown, Pennsylvania.

First Field Champion to accrue more than 3000 DCA Merit Points

FC Danika vom Nordlicht TD ME, a standard wirehaired bitch owned by Cheri Faust and Larry Gohlke. Danika passed the 3000 point mark by earning a 2nd in a 12-dog Field Champion Bitch stake at the September 16, 2017 Wolverine Dachshund Club field trial in Addison, Michigan.
