This dog was, in my mind, the best Dachshund out in California and Basil was sired by the Van Court’s nice-producing CH Cavalier v Marienlust and out of a CH White Gables bitch with all their early greats in her pedigree. However, that made the Heyings buy another Marienlust dog from the Mehrer’s who was a true game-changer and producer extraordinaire, CH Favorite v Marienlust, who then became California’s best to me. Basil went on to a great career as a producer and was used often by the Shultis’, the van Courts, Katay Berg, and the Heyings. He was a VERY sound Dachshund and had a long, healthy life. Basil helped set the tone for type and health when the others were attempting to improve Smooth Dachshunds.
