Here is my report on the great time I had judging Dachshunds in Moscow, Russia. I commented favorably on so many that I want to  share my thoughts on where their breeding program is going and why we, as US breeders should care. In my mind, they have several dogs who would make a huge difference to our breeding program and I hope I pointed out where the hope for that lies.

In the early ’70s, Dee Hutchinson started a line of Miniature smooths , headed by three top producers and was soon on her way to improving her line of Miniature smooths and wires. The power of what these dogs produced really got her strain of Miniatures moving all the way to when she started to cut her breeding down. Look at these top producers and what they produced and see the difference their quality still makes to this day.

In honor of Christmas, here is another chapter of the Rose Farm saga and it is all about the Miniature Wirehairs that Dee acquired and which brought her a lot of success .

Please note the type she maintained for all these years and how she worked with certain bloodlines to keep these qualities available to her Miniatures that were small, but were always winning the big awards.

The Rose Farm dogs of the Onthanks-Nancy and Dee-were the first things that were started by the new Dachshund breeders. It is amazing to see the changes made by Dee long after Mrs. Nancy Onthank was no longer breeding. They did get better and better as the years went on.

Also, the dogs bred by Mrs. Onthank were named “of Rose Farm” while Dee’s were always named “Rose Farm’s” and that, too, showed the differences in the different lines.
